What do you have? Magical microchipping? [ He sighs. ] That would be useful.
[ Then maybe he could feel he was competent enough to do something here to help those he cares about. It's hard enough knowing his medical degree is fairly useless, but he's being reminded that there's little he can do for anyone. ]
Have a seat? I'd offer to get you a drink but you don't need me for that so ... [ He shrugs. ] I'm fine, you know. Just going to stay here and try to be here for him if he needs me to be.
[ He does take a seat and gets a drink because at least one person here should try to look calm. Ragnor is very self-contained, no pacing, no nervous energy. ]
He asked I gave you ah, "the cliff notes version" in his own words. You may want a drink as well, if you want to hear it.
[ There's nothing in Kyle that wants to hear this. Nothing that wants to know. Yet if Nick wants him to know, he'll respect that. He's seen how bad he was, stood perfectly still and let him do what he needed as if he wasn't even human. Which he supposes he's not, but he's a doctor and he's dealt with abused patients. He's been abused. He knew what he was seeing, and why.
He shakes his head though. ]
No, go ahead. He doesn't get to drown it out and neither should I.
[ Ragnor sits down, staring at his drink instead of nursing it. ]
The short version is that he's been used twice to address Dominant citations. I know the first Dominant, when he got out of the drug haze, he told me what happened, so I tracked Nick down to see if there was anything I could do. That's how I met him.
As for this time, Nick asked me not to watch the video, so I know very little of what happened, beyond him having been forced into sex again.
[ Kyle is so still, unmoving, just staring at Ragnor and listening. He can feel the anger rising up within him though. He's been here nearly a year and a half, and maybe he's been lucky to not have someone he cares about enduring this but now it's someone important to him and he hasn't entirely the same calm he had before. ]
Why him? What kind of sick game is it doing that to him?
[ And he knows the truth is that it's just that. A sick game, but that doesn't anger him less, his voice low and dark and pained though he's trying to hide it. ]
I know it was bad enough it horrified a friend who just found herself here.
I've been here nearly a year and a half, and never known anyone to go through something like that twice in such a short time. Maybe I've just been blind to it though and it just hasn't been someone that I care about.
[ And it's a sad, but honest truth that it may just be that. It might be that he hasn't paid attention, ignored those kind of videos and, especially during those six months with his ex, ignored everything else.
He shifts then, nervous energy he can't even hide and has stopped trying. ]
Do you have any idea how badly I want to take people apart for this? I don't even think it has anything to do with what I am. I'm just sick of watching people I care about being hurt.
[ He sighs, slumping as he sits back on the couch, shaking his head. ]
I understand the impulse, but we cannot hurt the ones actually responsible, and trying would only hurt those we care about.
[ Ragnor does not particularly care about what would happen to him. But he has Magnus, and he wouldn't want him to be held responsible for Ragnor's recklessness. ]
As far as I know, no amount of legal jargon can prevent what happened.
[ He keeps thinking about contingencies and keeps failing to come up with any. ]
You might be able to stop Nick from being punished by anyone other than you, but that is all, as far as I'm aware.
[ He says it softly, accepting that though it doesn't make it hurt any less. He can't hide that, and with Ragnor he wouldn't. He hadn't seen a reason to hide things from him at all. ]
I know that too. They want us to believe those contracts matter but in the end, they really don't. Not to them. Only in so much as they matter to us.
But at least this time, best I can tell, he wasn't being punished. Just used.
[ He was just part of the means of punishing another. ]
I do wonder if adding specifics to a contract would do anything. I asked Magnus to add that I have to be present for any citations involving him, but it hasn't yet been tested. Hopefully it won't be.
[ He doesn't actually remember what else they put in his contract. Ragnor was drunk at the time, and he trusted Magnus to handle it. ]
That's a good addition. I'll talk to them about it. It might not do much if they drag Nick in like they did, since that wasn't his citation. Every bit we can try and be there for one another might help though.

[ There's nothing he can say to make this better or easier, so he's not even trying. ]
I am keeping an eye on him, and he's agreed to keep in touch. I expect he'll need a few days. And then he'll need you.

I wasn't protecting anyone and I wasn't being protected. I want to give Nick more than that.
